Tja. nieuwe partner, hmm ze heeft al drie eitjes, waarvan er misschien een bevrucht zou kunnen zijn.. Ben toch benieuwd waar dit naar toe gaat ..

Als ik de blogs lees zouden ze allemaal bevrucht kunnen zijn. Kan het nu niet zo snel vinden, maar ergens stond er dat SV Zaad kunnen opslaan en dat tussen de laatste paring en het laatste ei een tijdje tussen kan zitten.

Unfortunately, there has been no activity at the nest since March 11.  In all likelihood the pair has decided to nest elsewhere (again!)  We will let you know for sure as soon as we know!

His Name Is Terzo

In Pittsburgh, the tradition for naming a newly arrived adult peregrine is this:
The primary nest monitor names the bird for his/her own convenience using these two rules. If the peregrine was named at banding that name is preferred. Otherwise the primary monitor names the bird.
N29 did not receive a name on Banding Day so it was my job to decide what to call him. After many hours of deliberation and repeated consultations with my fellow peregrine monitor, Karen Lang, …
the third male peregrine to nest at the Cathedral of Learning has a name: Terzo.
Terzo means “third” in Italian.
p.s. In Italian it’s pronounced Tare-tzo. It rhymes with “scherzo.”

Dit is wel een heel "wit" mannetje, mooi hoor. Gaaf dat ze toch snel een partner gevonden heeft, of beter, hij haar. Ik ben zo benieuwd of en hoeveel eieren uit gaan komen.

And almost as quickly as the second egg hacthed...Hope used the chick for a meal for herself and the first hatch.

What does this mean? Well, it hasn't been seen before here. All that can be said is the second chick did not go to waste. Anything else is speculation.

It is unlikely that it had anything to do with E2.

Whatever the case, this is a very interesting look into the lives of these two and we are witnessing something very unique.

UPDATE from Pitt U Falcon nest:
Third Egg Hatched; All is Well

Last night at 9:30pm the third egg hatched at the Cathedral of Learning peregrine nest. Hope immediately ate the egg shell. She did not eat the chick.
This morning there are two nestlings and one egg, as seen in this screenshot when Hope and Terzo did a nest exchange.
All is well.

UPDATE on Pitt U:
5/19/2016: Hope and Terzo’s remaining chick continues to thrive and grow at the Cathedral of Learning nesting site. Not yet three weeks old, the chick is already moving around the scrape, stretching out its wings, and even sitting on the perching area just out of the camera’s view. The adult Peregrine Falcons continue to bring the chick meals several times a day, often resulting in the mess of feathers observed in the nest.
This month the PA Game Commission will band the new chick so it can be monitored and tracked, like Hope and Terzo. They will also conduct a very brief medical exam on the chick and collect blood samples. In addition to testing the health of the chick, the blood sample will be used to determine its sex.
Peregrine Falcons usually fledge roughly six weeks after hatching. We can predict the chick will begin to develop its adult feathers and begin spending more time closer to the edge of the nest over the next few weeks.
(Below) On 23 May 2016, you can see pin feathers emerging at C1’s wing tips and and tail — 24 days after hatching.
