I have been informed by a member of the team at St Mary's Church team that it is essential that an urgent safety survey of the exterior stonework is undertaken and this will commence on Monday 6th February. They say the work will take about 4 full consecutive days and involves steeplejacks abseiling down the walls from the tower roof.
Clearly the Peregrines will object to this, and we can expect them to make a lot of noise. The law does allow such urgent safety work to be done, and normally the birds calm down when the disturbance stops. Obviously each pair is different. Hopefully all will go back to normal quite quickly.
The church did check the legal situation before commissioning the work, and is aware that this is not ideal timing from the Peregrine's point of view.
