To update followers on what might happen this year, we had thought that last year was going to be the last time the birds could breed on Quadrant House for the foreseeable future in view of the proposed redevelopment. Until recently it had been intended to close the roof off to prevent breeding this year so that work could take place on the roof before the end of the 2025 breeding season.
I'm not sure what the current position is with the redevelopment plans, but the situation has now changed in that there will be no roof work until later this year, and thus allowing the birds to breed if they choose to do so. This is of course good news, albeit it may only be a temporary situation.
The building remains unoccupied and the camera that was above the nest site has been removed. It seems unlikely we will be able to get anything up there to monitor the birds now, and if we can it will only be something Stuart (London Peregrine Partnership), me, and possibly the building security staff will be able to access. There will unfortunately be no public webcam. If we can't get anything up within the next few weeks, then I will be entirely dependent on my, and hopefully others, observations from the ground. That should still allow me to establish if they are on eggs and if chicks have hatched, but there will be no detailed information such as dates of laying/hatching, their age and how many there are until they are visible up on the ledge just prior to fledging.
